School Homework Tips: Planning You Time

Time management is important for completing any project on time, even small projects like doing your homework at night. By planning your time carefully, you can get what you need to get done and still have time leftover to do the things you want, such as watch TV, play video games or socialize with your friends. Here are some time management tips you can use to make sure your homework is done in a timely manner.

Buy a Planner

Instead of writing down your class schedule or assignments in a notebook, where it can be easily forgotten about or overlooked, buy a weekly planner to carry in your purse or backpack. Jot down your schedule, your assignments and when they are due, practice times and any upcoming social events that you are attending. You can glance at your planner and find any information you need quickly. Planners are divided by month, days of the week and you can get planners that include the hours of the day.

Use Technology to Your Advantage

Set up alerts on your smartphone to remind you when an assignment is due. You can set it up for a week in advance to make sure you have extra time to get a project finished on time or for the same day to remind you to get your homework that you've already done off of your desk and take it to school with you so you can turn it in on time.

Block of Time for Homework

Set up a schedule to do your homework at the same time everyday, either after you get home from school or some time in the evening. Inform your family about your schedule so they will know not to disturb you while you're trying to study. Following a homework schedule will soon become a habit that you can use throughout your academic career and even into your professional one.

Don't Leave Work Until the Last Day

If you have a large project, a research paper or book report, don't leave it until the night before to do. Divide larger assignments into small chunks to make them more manageable and to help you get them done on time. Schedule some time each day to work on your large projects, whether it is 15, 20 or 30 minutes a day. As you accomplish each task, you will be closer to getting the entire project done.
